TORONTO, Feb. 1, 2017 /CNW/ - RTO/ERO is holding an open enrolment period for its insurance for retirees in the broader education community from Feb. 1 to April 30.
For those who have purchased an individual insurance plan in the market following their retirement, switching from one plan to another normally requires medical documentation. During the open enrolment period, acceptance is guaranteed – no medical required – for applicants eligible for RTO/ERO membership who have extended health, hospital or dental insurance.
"There are many advantages to group health benefits for seniors, especially a group plan designed and managed by members, such as the one RTO/ERO offers. It's designed to protect us as we age, for our entire retirement. We own and operate the largest voluntary insurance plan for retired education sector employees in Canada, covering 95,000 members and dependents," said Jim Grieve, executive director of RTO/ERO.
RTO/ERO operates three insurance plans—extended health (which includes travel insurance), semi-private hospital and dental. "During our open enrolment window, you're automatically guaranteed acceptance into any of our plans if you have the same existing coverage," explained Gayle Manley, RTO/ERO member and chair of the Health Services and Insurance Committee that oversees the RTO/ERO plans. "If you wish to pick up additional insurance coverage that you don't have now, a medical questionnaire would be required. We don't require a medical questionnaire for our dental plan, but there is a first-year coverage limit of $500."
