Rogers launches its LTE network in 18 more markets to bring the world's fastest wireless network technology to the majority of Canadians
Rogers first to offer LTE in eight new markets
LTE fuels an 80 per cent growth in wireless internet usage at Rogers
TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - Rogers Communications announced today that its LTE network is now live in 18 additional markets, bringing the world's fastest wireless network technology to roughly 60 per cent of Canadians. Rogers continues to introduce LTE to new markets across Canada and is the first to launch LTE in Saskatoon and Regina, St. Catharines/Niagara, Oshawa/Pickering/Ajax, Windsor, Sudbury, Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivières.
Rogers LTE is also live today in Victoria, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Kingston, Edmonton, Quebec City, Oakville/Burlington/Hamilton, London/Kitchener/Waterloo, Cambridge and Barrie. Rogers will continue to expand its LTE coverage adding additional markets this year and in 2013.
"We're proud to bring LTE first to many more Canadians and we're hearing great feedback from consumers who love the speed and the quality that LTE delivers," said John Boynton, Rogers Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "Canadians have an insatiable demand to be connected and this means doing even more on the go. They're sharing videos, pictures and accessing real-time entertainment services like streaming music, gaming and videos. LTE helps deliver the next gen experience they're looking for."
Rogers was the first to launch LTE in Canada with the commercial launch in Ottawa, followed by Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and surrounding areas, as well as Calgary, Halifax, St. John's and Moncton. Since Rogers launched its LTE network, the company has seen an 80 per cent increase in wireless internet usage year over year. The world is moving to digital and LTE allows consumers and businesses to seamlessly connect wherever they are, at home, at work, or on the go. According to Cisco, by 2015 more smartphones will be connected to the Internet than home computers. And the traffic generated from these on-the-go devices will exceed traffic from wired devices.
"Canadians' digital needs are changing and we're investing significantly in LTE to ensure our customers are ready for the next wave of digital experiences they haven't even thought of," said Boynton. "The shift to a mobile lifestyle is real, it's coming fast, and we're excited to deliver the best internet experience in this digitally advanced world."
Today, Rogers has the largest selection of LTE devices of any Canadian carrier, including the recently released iPhone 5. The LG Optimus G, available this November, offers maximum theoretical LTE download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, making it Canada's fastest smartphone. The Motorola RAZR HD LTE and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will also be joining the Rogers LTE device lineup this fall.
