RH Precision Receives Transport Canada SFOC Approval
OTTAWA, Aug 24, 2016 /CNW/ - RH Precision Unmanned announced today that it has received a 1-year Standing SFOC from Transport Canada to conduct commercial UAV operations in the Ontario Region. The company will no longer have to file flight plans and operating procedures for individual flights with Transport Canada, eliminating the standard 3-5 week approval period.
"We are very fortunate to have developed an excellent relationship with Transport Canada to create safe and efficient operating procedures that meet Canadian Air Regulations, " said Matthew Ryan, RH's Vice President. "This certification will allow us to offer services to clients who require a fast response time," he added. Transport Canada has authorized the following:
- The ability to conduct night operations;
- A 70ft reduction in the standard lateral distance from 100ft. to 30ft. from non-associated persons and property when operating UAVs.
"We are very optimistic for the future of RH Precision Unmanned. This is a major milestone for our company, and it has taken us over a year to get to where we are today. We are aiming to be an industry leader, and this can only be accomplished by expanding our capabilities - this certification does just that. Few companies have been granted standing SFOC's, and even fewer see their condition requests approved," said Alex Healy, RH's President and Master Pilot. "The ability to operate within 30ft. of the general public and adjacent buildings has a major impact on how we conduct urban operations."
RH Precision Unmanned has also submitted requests to all other Transport Canada regions to receive a Standing SFOC in other provinces and territories. RHPU will announce these separately as they are granted.
"At the end of the day it is about executing the safest aerial operations possible while providing our clients with the highest quality data," adds Ryan. "Our goal is to keep our customers' employees out of harm's way and go where they can't. This approval by Transport Canada will be a major benefit to our clients by allowing them to make better decisions faster."
