Revizto Academy celebrates two years with more than 13,500 certifications awarded

As construction's skills needs evolve, Revizto Academy is helping connect practical digital learning with the realities of modern project delivery.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Sept. 9, 2026 /CNW/ -- Revizto, the leading collaboration platform for the architecture, engineering, construction & operations (AECO) industry, today marks two years of Revizto Academy, its free, self-directed training program designed to build digital coordination skills across the global workforce.

Since launching in 2024, Revizto Academy has awarded over 13,500 certifications in 60+ countries to professionals from more than 500 AECO firms worldwide -- including AECOM, AtkinsRéalis, Jacobs, Mortenson and Stantec. Three levels of certifications help learners build the digital coordination skills needed to work effectively in today's increasingly complex project environments.

A workforce at a turning point

Construction is facing a series of converging workforce pressures. In the US, the National Center for Construction Education and Research has warned that approximately 41% of the current construction workforce is projected to retire by 2031, accelerating the need to bring new people into the industry while transferring decades of knowledge and experience to the next generation.

At the same time, AI is changing the skills people need. Anthropic's 2026 research suggests construction is relatively less exposed to AI disruption than many other occupations, reflecting work that still depends heavily on physical intelligence, real-time adaptation on site and complex human judgement. But lower exposure does not mean less change: AI is already reshaping how teams interrogate information, automate repetitive work and make smarter decisions. The ability to work effectively alongside new technologies is an increasingly important, if not required, skill.

Upskilling talent

Revizto's 2026 Digital Design & Construction Report, based on more than 2,000 AECO professionals across eight international markets, shows firms combining recruitment with new approaches to enhancing skills and productivity, including 44% upskilling existing teams and 40% using automation to reduce manual work.

There are encouraging signs in the talent pipeline too. Research from the National Association of Home Builders found that the share of 18- to 25-year-olds interested in construction trades has doubled over the past decade, from 3% to 6%. For an industry that needs to expand its workforce, the opportunity is not only to attract the next generation, but to equip them with practical skills that help them contribute from day one.

Revizto Academy is designed to support both sides of the talent equation: helping experienced professionals build new digital capabilities as technologies and workflows evolve, while giving students, job seekers and new entrants a practical foundation before they arrive on live projects.

For employers, that can mean creating a consistent training baseline without adding pressure to internal teams. Robert Alzuarde, speaking to his experience as former Innovation Leader and Strategy Manager at Canadian construction firm Pomerleau, said: "Revizto Academy helped us standardize new user training at our company. Preparing the next generation

Academy is also helping build those skills before people enter the workforce in the first place. At California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Revizto has been incorporated into Construction Management teaching, giving students hands-on experience with the same object trees, search sets, takeoffs and 2D/3D coordination workflows used on live projects.

For a generation that has grown up navigating 3D digital environments through video games, interfaces like Revizto can feel surprisingly familiar, helping students get comfortable with digital coordination quickly. Students also complete Level 1 and Level 2 Revizto Academy certifications, giving them a practical foundation in digital coordination before graduation.

Professor Jeong Woo, Construction Management Department Head at Cal Poly, said: "We want students to be as 'Ready Day One' as possible when they graduate. That means more than just learning how to use software in the classroom; it means understanding how real construction management professionals coordinate, communicate, and solve real-world problems to deliver a successful project. Revizto Academy Certifications give every student that foundation before they even step onto a jobsite."

For those entering the industry, the opportunity extends well beyond learning new technology. Brennan Behrens, VDC Specialist at PCL Construction, said: "You will never be not in demand once you are good at what you do in this industry."

And the work itself can look very different from traditional perceptions of a career in construction technology. Seim Lei Yati, Digital Construction Coordinator at StructureTone UK, said: "When someone says BIM, you tend to think it's all about software, that you just sit in your room and do the models. But it's far from the truth. You are very much involved in the project. It's all about communication, managing expectations, workflows, and you have to speak everyone's language."

Keeping learning free
