Resident Awareness Day

VANCOUVER, Feb. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - The Professional Association of Residents of British Columbia, PAR-BC, is celebrating the 13^th Annual National Resident Awareness Day. This national event aims to bring awareness to the public about the importance of medical residents in the national healthcare system.

There are over 1200 resident physicians working throughout BC in the healthcare system. Residents are a diverse group of medical doctors who are undergoing postgraduate specialty training, in areas such as family medicine, general surgery, and radiology. They are frontline healthcare workers who are often the first point of contact for patients and provide around-the-clock patient care in clinics and hospitals. They are also teachers who play a key role in educating the public as well as medical students. Most importantly, they are the physicians of the future and are committed to providing quality healthcare throughout the province.

This year, in celebration, PAR-BC is releasing print media advertising on transit throughout Greater Vancouver. Over the past weekend residents connected with the community; volunteering their time at the Dugout drop-in centre in Vancouver, serving breakfast and engaging with the public in a non-medical setting. In addition, there will be booths today at Royal Columbian Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital to answer questions from the public and allied healthcare professionals.
