New Leader Strengthens MNP's PE team
CALGARY, Nov. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - MNP LLP, one of Canada's largest national accounting and business consulting firms, announced today that John Hughes, the former National Leader of Deloitte's Private Enterprise Practice has joined MNP's Private Enterprise (PE) practice as National Leader. Based in MNP's Toronto office, Hughes will work closely with the firm's PE professionals to help take the practice to new heights.
"John is a highly respected professional in the industry and has a passion for Canadian private business," says Daryl Ritchie, CEO, MNP LLP. "Our PE practice has seen unprecedented growth in the past 15 years, and it's important that we build on that momentum by bringing top talent to the team. John has the experience and industry insight to ensure our clients in the GTA and across the firm have the best professionals in place to meet their growing needs."
With more than 25 years of experience, Hughes has spent his career helping Canadian business families, entrepreneurs and their management teams create value and grow their businesses through a broad range of strategies. He was also the former national program leader of Canada's Best Managed Companies program; established in 1993 to recognize excellence in Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. His expertise and passion for Canadian private companies has led Hughes to co-author two Canadian best-selling books: Building the Best (Penguin 2006) and Power of the Best (2012). Hughes' consulting experience and work has run the gamut: audit, strategic tax planning, strategy and operational consulting to corporate finance, due diligence, M&A and IPOs.
"Although MNP is the sixth largest accounting firm in Canada, it's always been local in its focus and committed to serving private enterprise companies. What appealed to me most about MNP is that while they have 80 offices across Canada and the service capabilities of a large national firm, they offer a personalized and partner-led approach that is typically only present with smaller firms. This unique approach to business, combined with a full-service and client-focused culture, has made joining MNP an exciting new chapter in my professional life," explains Hughes.
In addition to tax and accounting expertise, MNP delivers a diverse range of advisory services, including consulting, enterprise risk, corporate finance, valuation and litigation support, succession planning, estate planning, insolvency and restructuring, investigative and forensic accounting, cross-border taxation and more.
"As an entrepreneurial firm built for entrepreneurs, MNP has focused on private enterprise since 1945. It's their client-centric approach and partner-led engagements that have always set them apart and what has inspired me to want to be a part of the MNP family," adds Hughes.
With its newly expanded presence in Ottawa, MNP now has over 80 offices and a team of more than 3,000 from Montreal to Victoria. The firm has a large national presence and access to hundreds of MNP experts and specialists, as well as access to a global network of accounting firms and affiliations through Praxity—an international alliance of independent accounting firms.
"Wherever business takes you, MNP has the talent locally, nationally and internationally to ensure our clients get solutions and strategies they need," says Laurel Wood, Executive Vice President, Clients and Services. "Bringing in top professionals like John will ensure we continue to offer our clients the services, knowledge and expertise where and when they need it."
