Renfrew Power Generation Breaks Ground on the Thomas Low Generating Station

$22M Project to Increase the Province's Supply of Clean, Renewable and Reliable Energy

RENFREW, ON, June 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Renfrew Power Generation Inc. announced the groundbreaking of the Thomas Low Generating Station at an event held today in Renfrew, Ontario.

Under development for ten years, the Thomas Low Generating Station will renew and replace 100 year old facilities located in the Town of Renfrew. The development, entirely contained at the existing Renfrew site, will replace old infrastructure with new and efficient technology. The electricity production will be delivered under a contract with the Ontario Power Authority that will be in place until 2029.

"We at RPG are extremely pleased the Thomas Low Generating Station has reached the point of launch," said Bill Bowles, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Renfrew Power Generation Inc.  "This represents significant investment by Renfrew Power Generation and its shareholder, the Town of Renfrew, and will provide long term benefits on a many levels."

This $22M project is aligned with the Province's Green Energy initiatives and will result in a 50% increase in production of renewable energy using the same water supplies. This initiative will increase the supply of reliable, renewable energy to the province's consumers for the next 50-100 years. When the upgrades are complete, the facility will have an installed capacity of approximately 4 MW with an annual average energy generation of 18.5GWh.

The Thomas Low Generating Station is set to be open for operation in 2014.
