Release of Draft Terms of Reference for the Environmental Impact Review of the Beaufort Sea Exploration Joint Venture Drilling Program for Public Comment
INUVIK, NT, March 3, 2014 /CNW/ - On February 28, 2014, the Environmental Impact Review Board (EIRB) has released Draft Terms of Reference for the Environmental Impact Review of the Beaufort Sea Exploration Joint Venture Drilling Program for public comment. When finalized, these Terms of Reference will provide guidance and set out information requirements and expectations of the EIRB for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will satisfy the requirements of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement.
The developer, Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Limited, representing the Beaufort Sea Exploration Joint Venture, is proposing an exploratory drilling program and associated support activities that would result in the drilling of one or more exploration wells in the Beaufort Sea within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
The comment period for the draft Terms of Reference will run for 60-days. During this time comments from Inuvialuit people and communities, the developer, interested parties and the general public will be solicited and considered by the EIRB in the finalization of the Terms of Reference.
