Flexible workplace provider encourages entrepreneurs and businesses to come back downtown
CALGARY, May 11, 2017 /CNW/ - Regus Canada, the country's largest providers of co-working facilities and shared workspaces, is pleased to celebrate the opening of its 100th office location in downtown Calgary. Designed to offer businesses the flexibility to access professional workspace to meet their needs, Regus Canada wants to help the city attract new industries and drive economic growth.
According to a recent report, vacancy rates in downtown Calgary are at a record level-- nearly 270,000 of office space was returned to the downtown Calgary market in the first three months of 2017 with more than 10 million square feet now available. The retraction in the oil and gas industry has significantly contributed to the empty space but the city is looking at ways to attract new businesses into the core.
"The oil and gas industry in Alberta has always been a powerful economic engine that helped Calgary become a world-class city," says Wayne Berger, Executive Vice President, Regus Canada. "But the economics have changed and Calgary is working diligently to attract new, additional investment into the area. We are pleased to offer our co-working facilities and shared workspaces to help support this next wave of growth."
As part of its office opening, Regus Canada hosted a panel discussion to focus on how the city can look beyond oil and gas. Entitled Capitalizing on Opportunities and Industries That Can Help Drive Calgary's Growth, the panel featured leading industry experts with their own insights on ways to stimulate the local economy.
"Our goal is to help diversify Calgary's economy and reduce the reliance on one sector to help drive the economy," says Kari Gordon, Executive Director, Startup Calgary. "Calgarians tend to be entrepreneurial so we want to foster this spirit and encourage innovation so we can find new opportunities in different industries."
Startup Calgary hosted its Speaker Series at the new Regus office as part of the grand opening which featured a keynote address by one of Calgary's leading entrepreneurs, Trent Johnsen, CEO & founder at Hookflash Inc.
The new Regus Canada office is located in Calgary Place at 330 5th Avenue, Suite 1800. Regus offers flexible workspace by the hour, the day or as long as needed, without the hefty overhead costs of a permanent office.
