Regent Park Event: Cycling Through Memories with High-tech Bike Tour

Charles Prinsep would have been celebrating his 26th birthday
this weekend, but three years ago, the avid cyclist and community
builder was struck and killed by a car while riding across the continent.
In his memory, Charlie's FreeWheels will be leading an
historical bike tour through Toronto's Regent Park.

The most popular stops will be shared using Foursquare so that
those who cannot attend the tour can recreate the adventure
(including commentary) anytime on their smartphones.

TORONTO, July 21 /CNW/ - Graduates of the Charlie's FreeWheels program will be offering a free bicycle tour of the Regent Park community, sharing the history of the neighborhood along with personal experiences from their favorite spots. The tour will also shed light on current changes in Regent Park and the role of bike culture in its transformation. The approximately two hour tour will conclude with a question and answer session with the young Regent Park residents followed by a barbecue.

Charlie's Freewheels is a non-profit program providing training in basic bicycle maintenance, repair and safety as well as career development opportunities for Regent Park youth aged 14-19. Co-director Joshua Farr explains, "The pride of rebuilding a bicycle fosters self-esteem and responsibility in young people. After the program, our students have significantly honed their problem solving abilities while having also gained a marketable skill." Past participants are encouraged to build upon their achievements through the pursuit of internship positions at local bike shops and leadership roles in subsequent CFW sessions.

Charlie's FreeWheels celebrates the life of Charlie Prinsep (July 27, 1984 - August 3, 2007), who was killed while biking across the continent. Cycling connected his life's passions: art, environment, and social responsibility, all of which the organization strives to carry-on.
