TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - The most important thing you can do to reduce child abuse is listen to what kids say.
And if what they say worries you, pick up the phone.
That's the simple message of Kids Say, a television PSA created by the York Region Children's Aid Society to help prevent child abuse. October is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
"If something a child says or does causes you to feel concerned about their well-being, all you have to do is pick up the telephone and call your local Children's Aid Society," says Patrick Lake, executive director of the York Region Children's Aid Society.
"You don't need proof. You don't need to identify yourself. You just have to let us know that you believe a child is at risk."
The 30-second public service announcement, which is available in formats suitable for television broadcast or inclusion in Web sites and blogs, depicts children revealing information which should create adult concern. A 60-second version is also available.
The public can also see the PSA at www.KidSay.ca
