OTTAWA, Feb. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce a new partnership with PCL family of companies, who has generously donated $600,000 to support Red Cross disaster relief services in Canada and the United States over the next three years.
"The Canadian Red Cross responds to a disaster every four hours in Canada," says Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. "Thanks to the generous support of partners like PCL, the Red Cross has the capacity to continue providing relief, support and hope to families affected by disaster."
The donation will be split equally between the Canadian Red Cross' disaster management program and the American Red Cross' disaster relief programming to support Red Cross efforts to have trained volunteers in place, ready to respond with the equipment they need when disaster strikes.
"Our employees are our owners and this donation is a contribution from each one of our shareholders across the company," says Paul Douglas, PCL president and CEO. "We pride ourselves on giving back to our communities and this donation will ensure that our contributions will help the Red Cross be ready to respond to disasters immediately as they arise."
The Canadian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which includes the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and over 186 national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
