CALGARY, Dec. 30, 2013 /CNW/ - RBC delivered on its commitment to Northeast Alberta communities by donating more than $155,000 in 2013. Funds donated provide assistance to organizations in areas such as education, financial literacy, environment, athletics and the arts.
"RBC is focused on improving the lives of Albertans, where it matters," says Dwain Krissa, regional vice president, Alberta Northeast. "Through these donations, we are working to make a real difference to the people, places and communities we serve.
We focused on two key social issues in 2013 - improving the lives of children and youth, and water conservation efforts," Krissa says.
In October, RBC announced a five-year, $100 million dollar commitment to improve the well-being of at least one million kids and youth in Canada. The Believe in Kids pledge is about addressing the needs of the whole child - mind, body and spirit alike - and includes support for a wide range of arts, education, sports, wellness and employment programs.
RBC also continued its commitment to the RBC Blue Water Project, a 10-year global pledge of $50 million to help conserve, and provide access to, clean water.
"Water conservation continues to be one of the most significant environmental and economic issues in the world today," Krissa adds.
Organizations in Northern Alberta and surrounding areas that received funding in 2013 include:
- Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lloydminster
- Northern Lights Regional Health Foundation, Fort McMurray
- Keyano College Foundation, Fort McMurray
- Bonnyville Canadian Native Friendship Centre
- Boys and Girls Club, Saddle Lake
