/R E P E A T -- Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - The Canadian Religious Conference Celebrates 60 Years of History/

MONTREAL, May 28, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Religious Conference (CRC), which represents the leaders of Catholic religious congregations from across Canada, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its founding this year. This important anniversary will be highlighted at the 30th General Assembly, which will be held from May 29 to June 1, 2014, in Montreal.

A souvenir album, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, will be unveiled for the occasion. The album tells the history of the Conference, in broad strokes, from its founding to the present day. A history of solidarity and mutual support, of engagement in Church and society, a history shaped over the past sixty years through countless celebrations, meetings, activities, publications and statements.

The Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow album includes excerpts from archive documents interspersed with the testimonies of men and women religious who were willing to put down in writing what future they imagine for consecrated life.

Dialogue is the keyword that the CRC Executive Director, Yvon Pomerleau, op, uses to summarize 60 years of history. The CRC, he writes, "has been a place of learning and development of dialogue at several levels. Dialogue with and among religious congregations, dialogue about religious life, dialogue in the Church and dialogue with the world."

Through the decades, the Canadian Religious Conference has made itself known for its commitment to promoting justice, peace, and respect for the environment. This commitment extended, says Yvon Pomerleau, op, "to dialogue within organizations from various Christian denominations and social groups."

Sixty years later, the CRC continues to participate in the evolution of religious life, to be attentive to the evolution of our societies and to the cry of life and to embark on the path of the future with confidence, open to new forms of religious life looming on the horizon.

Excerpts of testimonies will eventually be published on the Canadian Religious Conference website: www.crc-canada.org. Some historical notes have already been published.
