WHAT: Consumers can sample single malt Scotch whisky and
haggis while enjoying spirited Highland dancing to celebrate
the 251st birthday of the great Scottish poet Robbie Burns at
the LCBO Summerhill store, starting at 11:30 a.m. on
Saturday, January 23.
Piper Jack Jackson, attired as Robbie Burns, will parade the
haggis into the Summerhill store's event kitchen and recite the
poet's immortal, 'Address to the Haggis.' Immediately
following, champion Highland dancers Adele Campbell and
Jody Whitfield from the Scottish Dance Company will perform
traditional Scottish flings, jigs and reels.
Bowmore Islay 12-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky and
Auchentoshan 12-Year-Old Triple Distilled Lowland Single Malt
Scotch Whisky will be featured at the tasting along with
samples of haggis, the traditional Scottish dish served at
Robbie Burns' celebrations.
LCBO offers some 200 single malts and 60 blended Scotches
throughout its Spirits Category and VINTAGES fine wine and
premium spirits business unit.
In 2009, the LCBO sold almost $38 million worth of single malt
Scotch whisky and $89 million worth of blended Scotch through
its 610-store network.
