OTTAWA, May 26 /CNW/ - The Canadian Breast Cancer Network (CBCN) is releasing a comprehensive national report titled, Breast Cancer: Economic Impact and Labour Force Re-Entry. It is the first report of its kind to review both the financial burden and labour impact on Canadians with breast cancer - it firmly positions breast cancer as an economic issue as well as a health issue.

    Ms. Marsha Davidson, Executive Director, Breast Cancer Society of Canada
    Ms. Janet Dunbrack, Health Policy Consultant and report author

    Breast Cancer: Economic Impact and Labour Force Re-Entry reveals:

    -  Percentage of Canadians financially impacted by a breast cancer
    -  The drop in annual household income and how patients cover treatment
    -  How limited Employment Insurance coverage impacts patients
    -  How a return to work may mean a different job (title and salary),
       termination, or resignation
    -  Important next steps - How governments, employers, and the public can
       ease the burden
