TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - Federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver's Toronto constituency office will be the site Sept. 20 of a coalition rally organized to protest the government's plans to stop home mail delivery by Canada Post.

Buzz Hargrove, past president of the Canadian Auto Workers (now Unifor), headlines a list of several well-known social justice and labour activists who will speak at the rally. Other speakers include: Sid Ryan, president of the Ontario Federation of Labour, Fred Hahn, president of CUPE-Ontario, and Dennis Lemelin, president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

In 2013 the government of Stephen Harper announced massive changes to Canada Post, including cancellation of door-to-door mail delivery and further measures to increase privatization of the Crown corporation.
