/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Public sector workers protest Premier's
priorities at Liberal Party conference/

COLLINGWOOD, ON, May 13 /CNW/ - While the Ontario Liberal Party is "Imagining Ontario's Future" at their Collingwood Conference, public sector workers will be rallying to let them know their priorities are upside down.

Date: Friday, May 14, 2010
Time: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Place: Ontario Liberal Party Collingwood Conference,
Blue Mountain Ski Resort

Mobilizing for this event is taking place across southern Ontario. Buses have been booked for protesters leaving from eight locations including Hamilton, Toronto and Barrie.

The 2010 Liberal budget contains serious attacks on the public sector. "Tens of thousands of regular working people are taking a pay cut," says OPSEU President, Warren (Smokey) Thomas. "Many part-time workers barely make $20,000 to $30,000 a year, while top executives keep raking in big bonuses."

"It's time to invest in public services," says OPSEU Executive Board Member Mike Grimaldi. "Over the next few years, McGuinty will give away billions of dollars in tax breaks to big corporations. These tax breaks won't create jobs, build our public services, or pay down Ontario's deficit. McGuinty's priorities are upside down."

Demanding that the government invest in public services and stop the corporate tax cuts, OPSEU activists have been protesting at Ontario Liberal Party fundraising events since April 19.
