TORONTO, Feb. 16, 2012 /CNW/ -
|WHAT:|| Luncheon address by Don Forgeron, President & CEO, Insurance Bureau of Canada,
to the Saint John Board of Trade
|WHY:|| Too much unwanted water as a result of severe weather is an issue that continues to
make headlines around the world. And it's getting worse. In Canada, water claims have
surpassed fire as the number one cause of home insurance payouts in many parts of
the country. In New Brunswick, water losses have almost quadrupled in just four years.
Don Forgeron provides insights into how severe weather is taking a growing social and
economic toll on neighbourhoods where people live, work and play. He also talks
about the importance of bringing governments, the private sector, citizens and
community groups together to work on adaptation strategies and outlines the
initiatives his industry is developing to minimize the impact of severe weather.
