MONTREAL, Jan. 23, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Following the Health Minister Dr. Réjean Hébert's statement on the occasion of the Quebec Tobacco-Free Week calling for "smokers and those close to them to take action" — without any mention of new legislative measures —, patients and doctors from the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) are asking for the public's support to convince the Minister to take action as soon as the new parliamentary session begins!
During the last election campaign, the Parti Québécois committed to reviewing the Tobacco Act, which has not been strengthened since 2005 even though tobacco continues to kill 10 400 Quebecers each year.
Joined by patients who are lung cancer victims, Dr. David Mulder, Senior Thoracic Surgeon at the Montreal General Hospital of the MUHC and former chief physician for the Montreal Canadiens, as well as Dr. Dick Menzies, Director of the Respiratory Division, Montreal Chest Institute of the MUHC, will invite Quebec citizens to participate in a public action campaign.
