HALIFAX, Oct. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - FUSION Halifax will host its fourth annual urban development symposium, VivaCity, this Wednesday, October 23 at the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market. The free event will provide an opportunity for members of the public to engage with leaders in urban development and learn more about the projects set to shape Halifax's future.
"VivaCity is like a science fair for urban development," said Jared Dalziel, FUSION Halifax's Director of Urban Development. "Our goal is to provide a forum for the public to speak one-on-one with developers and architects, while learning more about the development process and how they can make informed decisions and influence our city's continued growth."
This year will feature a panel of four key players in the industry, including Councillor Waye Mason and Lara Ryan, Executive Director of the Canada Green Building Council - Atlantic Chapter. Panelists will focus on three topics: downtown revitalization, density and affordable housing.
"Events like VivaCity bring the community and developers together and remove much of the mystery around development," said Councillor Mason. "It is an opportunity for discussion and debate about what is good design and what will build a better city."
In addition, space will be provided for developers to showcase upcoming projects, including some that will dramatically transform the face of the city. Highlights will include Urban Capital's Southport development in the south end of Halifax and Waterfront Development Corporation's collaboratively designed waterfront centre.
VivaCity will take place at the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market from 6:00 - 9:00 pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Admission is free and open to the public.
