/R E P E A T -- CHAMPLAIN CORRIDOR: Complete closure of the southbound lanes during the 2nd spring work blitz, on the weekend of May 16, 17, and 18/

LONGUEUIL, QC, May 11, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that a 2nd work blitz will take place in the Champlain corridor on the weekend of Friday, May 15 (9 p.m.) to Tuesday, May 19 (3 a.m.). During the blitz, the southbound lanes (A-15 South) will be completely closed to traffic between the Turcot Interchange and Highway 132 on the South Shore and two northbound lanes will remain open on Champlain Bridge. Please note that during this weekend, three southbound lanes will be open on Jacques Cartier Bridge and two southbound lanes will also be open on Victoria Bridge.

This change in configuration from the configuration initially announced (one lane open in each direction) aims to better take into account the impact of the work carried out by the Ministère des Transports for the demolition of the Bleury viaduct located above the A-720 and to allow a better access to Nuns' Island for residents during this period.

Road users are encouraged to avoid the Champlain Bridge corridor where traffic will be particularly heavy, and instead use the Jacques Cartier, Victoria, or Honoré Mercier Bridges, as well as the Louis Hippolyte Lafontaine Bridge-Tunnel, to access or leave the island of Montreal.

This blitz will allow crews to work on the replacement of six expansion joints and carry out paving projects on the A-15.

The objective of these blitzes is to use these closures to mobilize several contractors who will be working day and night throughout the Champlain Corridor in order to limit the amount of hindrances (one closure rather than several potential closures).

BLITZ 2: FRIDAY, MAY 15 (9 P.M.) TO TUESDAY, MAY 19 (3 A.M.)

During this blitz, the southbound lanes (A-15 South) will be completely closed to traffic between the Turcot Interchange and Highway 132 and two northbound lanes will be open (A-15 North).

Several on- and off-ramps will also be closed during this period to carry out this configuration:

• 1 lane out of 3 open on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard at the intersection of Notre-Dame Street in the direction of the eastbound Bonaventure Expressway
• Complete closure of eastbound Bonaventure Expressway at exit 4
• Complete closure of the Atwater on-ramp towards the A-15 South
• Complete closure of the La Vérendrye on-ramp towards the A-15 South
• Complete closure of the Alexandre G. Bell on-ramp towards the A-10 West
• Complete closure of the Claude-Robutel on-ramp towards the A-10 West
• Complete closure of exit 58 on the A-15 North towards the Bonaventure Expressway
• Complete closure of the on-ramps of Nuns' Island towards westbound Bonaventure Expressway

ACCESS TO NUNS' ISLAND DURING THE 2^ND BLITZ

• Nuns' Island will be accessible as usual from the northbound direction.
• For the southbound direction, a priority access will be possible with a detour set up from the Gaétan-Laberge Boulevard access ramp to exit 57 on the A-15 South.
• Clément Bridge will be closed but access to the island can be done via exit 4 towards the A-15 South.
• All access ramps to the A-15 South will be closed.

We invite you to refer to the map of the blitz to see all the access and exit ramps that will be closed while these works take place, as well as the detours that will be set up. As well, the speed limit on the network will be reduced to 50 km/h.

Please note this work may be postponed due to weather conditions. A notice will be posted on our blog (champlainbridge.ca) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. according to the weather forecast to advise road users whether or not the work will take place.
