IRAN" in Ottawa/Gatineau, October 27, 2009/

OTTAWA , Oct. 22 /CNW/ - Members of the media are invited to attend an important conference hosted by the Canada-Israel Committee called "Democracy in Action: Crisis in Iran ."

The goal of the conference is to challenge and encourage Canada's political sector to take the lead within the international community on the Iran file. The Iranian regime must be forced to honour its obligations regarding its nuclear program, its human rights record and its role as a state sponsor of terrorism.

    
    Participants will discover the following from our speakers:

    -   The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Citizenship, Immigration
        and Multiculturalism: What is Canada's official position on Iran?

    -   The Honourable Irwin Cotler: Details of his landmark legislation that
        addresses the danger of the genocidal incitement, domestic repression
        and nuclear armament of the Iranian regime.

    -   Kenneth R. Timmerman, Author: Why the Iranian nuclear threat
        represents a global security issue

    -   Mark Dubowitz, Executive Director, Foundation for Defense of
        Democracies: What the Western world can do to help

    There will also be a keynote address on human rights abuses in Iran from
Iranian-Canadian insider Nazanin Afshin-Jam, Co-founder and President, Stop
Child Executions.
