/R E P E A T -- Black History Month at St. Albans Church: A Ceremony of Reconciliation/

OTTAWA, Feb. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - The Annual Reconciliation Day in Ottawa - Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 2:00pm  St. Albans Church, 454 King Edwards Avenue, at Daly, Ottawa 

A ceremony of reconciliation in remembrance of Lady Agnes Macdonald, Jamaican wife of Sir John A Macdonald, first Prime Minister of Canada will be held at St. Alban's Church, 454 King Edward Avenue, at Daly, on Sunday afternoon, February 10, at 2:00pm 

Lady Agnes was a parishioner at St. Alban's, built in Confederation year, with the mission to serve the poor in the city. Her contributions to the city of Ottawa included raising money to pay down the construction costs of St. Alban's church and purchasing land on which to build a home to keep orphaned children off the streets.  She also donated the beautiful East window over the altar at St. Albans in memory of her mother.

Today, the spirit of this heritage mission is carried on through Centre 454, a drop-in Centre, serving the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in today's Ottawa. 

Reconciliation Day in Ottawa is an annual event held during Black History Month in collaboration of the Dinqinesh Education Centre and Black History Ottawa.

This year Reconciliation Day in Ottawa marks the 146th anniversary of Agnes' February 16, 1867 marriage to Sir John A MacDonald. The plaque will be installed as a lasting reminder of her contribution to the city of Ottawa, through St. Albans.
