TORONTO, Feb. 12, 2014 /CNW/ - Questrade today announced the launch of silver bullion trading, and to celebrate the winter games, stated that all commissions for silver and gold bullion trading will be 50% off until February 24th.
In addition to the 50% off during the course of the games, when any Canadian captures a gold medal, gold trading will be completely commission-free the next day. When any Canadian wins a silver medal, silver trading will be commission-free the next day.
"Every two years, all Canadians turn into gold and silver bugs," says Jeff Beck, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. "We wanted to add our voice to the celebration. We want to show that we're rooting for every athlete on team Canada and sharing in the medal joy."
After several months of working to bring silver bullion trading to Questrade clients, Edward Kholodenko, CEO and President of Questrade, believes the timing is serendipitous. "It's the games. It's about gold and silver medal performances. And now our clients can benefit from directly owning the precious metal, being able to buy and sell on the spot market, and holding it securely in any margin, registered and TFSA account. And if the bullion spot market makes a move, our clients can take immediate action and quickly sell or buy more."
Questrade clients with margin, registered and TFSA accounts can directly trade precious metals through the firm's trade desk. Gold and silver prices are set by the U.S. spot price. Bullion is provided by Kitco Metals Inc. and secure storage is provided by the Royal Canadian Mint.
