Quebec Election Campaign - New Political Leadership to Regulate Private Online Gaming in Quebec

MONTRÉAL, Sept. 10, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Quebec Online Gaming Coalition welcomes the commitment by the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) and the Parti Québécois (PQ), as revealed in an interview with Radio-Canada, to recognize and regulate private online gaming platforms, just as Ontario and Alberta have done, along with some 100+ jurisdictions worldwide, including Great Britain, France, Spain, and Italy.

The assessment made by leaders Charles Milliard and Paul St-Pierre Plamondon is accurate: Loto-Québec's monopoly no longer ensures control over online gaming, and it is high time for the government to bring order to the situation. In fact, a 2025 report by the firm Blask estimates that Loto-Québec captures only 17% of this market, even though the state-owned corporation has been operating in this market for over 15 years.

As for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), it is worth noting that the party voted in favor of imposing strict rules on private online gaming companies--equivalent to those of Loto-Québec--to better protect players, during its National Convention in 2025.
