QCGN partners to launch toolkit for building leadership in rural Quebec

MONTREAL , Jan. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives from across Quebec are invited to a truly provincial press conference that will take place via the Community Learning Center's (CLC) video-conference network in Montreal in the Boardroom of the Quebec Community Groups Network; in Gaspé on the coast; in Chevery on the Lower North Shore; in Low in the Outaouais valley; and in Quebec City.

The press conference will launch a tookit for the development of minority language communites in Quebec . The Building Leadership in Rural Quebec Project Tookit was developped by a group of 28 young women who participated across three areas: the Lower North Shore, the Gaspé, and the Outaouais. In each location, eight to 10 women formed a team, working together to effect change in their communities while learning about community development, leadership, and group dynamics. Twenty-one women acted as mentors and countless community members and associations participated directly and indirectly in this project through donations, volunteering, and providing other support. The toolkit is the result of documentation and reflection during the process.

On hand for the simultaneous announcement in all five regions will be project partners, participants and consultants including partners in the Outaouais: Heather Stronach , Executive Director of the Regional Association of West Quebecers (RAWQ) and Peter MacGibbon, Carleton Centre for Community Innovation (3ci); Maria Chatterton and Cathy Brown , from Committee for Anglophone Social Action (CASA) in the Gaspé; and Ana Osborne , from the CLC Netagamiou on the Lower North Shore. Also on hand to discuss the project and answer your questions will be QCGN Director General Sylvia Martin-Laforge and project coordinators Lise Palmer and Brenda Rooney . QCGN President Robert Donnelly will also be on hand from Quebec City. Reporters will be able to interact with participants in all five regions live via video-conference.
