TORONTO, June 2 /CNW/ - The Toronto Police Service has released a statement in regards to tampering with Piller's Polish Sausage, Pillers Kolbassa and Pillers Turkey Kolbassa in a localized area of West Toronto. We are currently working closely and cooperating fully with the Toronto Police Service and our customers to ensure the safety of the public on this tampering issue.
We would like to supplement the news release with the following information.
All Pillers facilities are CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) registered establishments and are monitored by the CFIA. An important part of this federal monitoring programme is the metal detection capabilities of our production facilities. All Pillers processing facilities and packaging lines are equipped with metal detection devices and are monitored and validated several times a day during production. The needles in question are definitely detectable by our metal detection programme. This means that the objects were inserted after packaging.
These products are distributed nationally to thousands of locations across Canada. The products that were tampered with were purchased in a localized area of West Toronto.
The public is requested to check their packaging of Piller's Polish sausages, Pillers Kolbassa and Pillers Turkey Kolbassa thoroughly to see if there is any evidence of tampering. If you have reason to suspect that the product has been tampered with you should retain the product, the packaging, retain your receipt and call your local police or the Canadian Food inspection Agency at 416-665-5049.
