Public auction to be held at W.C. Wood as final step in factory closure

GUELPH, ON, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - The landmark location of the W.C. Wood Corporation will see some new activity this week as a public auction will be held at the factory on Wednesday, February 10th and Thursday, February 11th. Everything from office furniture and computers to machinery and tools will be sold from the 380,000 square foot manufacturing facility.

W.C. Wood manufactured quality fridges and freezers for more than 79 years and at one time was one of the 10 largest employers in Guelph. The company had struggled for years with rising production costs, a rising Canadian dollar and tough competition from off shore manufacturers before filing for bankruptcy protection and announcing its closure.

Asset Engineering, a Markham based auctioneer and disposition specialist, has been managing the liquidation of the inventory and assets at the W.C. Wood plant. The warehouse has been open to the public in past weeks giving them the opportunity to purchase the finished goods at discount prices. The auction will be the final step in the liquidation process. A large crowd of interested buyers, curious onlookers and nostalgic locals is expected.
