Full-day event to feature Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Finance Bill Morneau as keynote speakers
NEW YORK, June 7, 2016 /CNW/ -- The Economist Events' Canada Summit will gather more than 250 senior business and government leaders tomorrow, June 8th 2016, at The Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. Morneau and Trudeau will participate in one-on-one interviews to be conducted by editors of The Economist, Matthew Bishop and Brooke Unger, respectively.
The Canada Summit will explore an array of topics, including the economic outlook of the country, opportunities in fin-tech, boosting trade, the effects of the fall in oil prices and more. The full agenda can be viewed here.
"Canada, one of the strongest performing economies in the world after the financial crisis, has hit a turbulent patch," said Joseph Lake, Director of global forecasting for The Economist Intelligence Unit, who joins the event as a moderator. "Low oil prices and a weak currency are shaping the economy, and questions are being asked about the strength of business investment."
"However, it is in times of disruption like this that the successful companies of the future are created," Lake continued. "I'm looking forward to hearing how our speakers share their views on the advantages of doing business in Canada, and discussing the sectors and firms that will power the economy in the future."
The event will hone in on how Canada's vibrant mix of talent can be translated into robust business opportunities and how to effectively commercialise game-changing ideas in the region.
Additional speakers include Michele Romanow of Dragons' Den, Dino Trevisani of IBM Canada, Cameron Fowler of BMO Financial Group, Andrea Stairs of eBay Canada, Former Canadian Ambassador Paul Frazer, Michael Rodyniuk of WASAYA and Jean Boivin of BlackRock Investment Institute.
