Press Conference - Sylvie Brosseau and Mémo-Qc react to the Public Inquiry Report on the Death of Mr. Normand Meunier Français
MONTREAL, Nov. 26, 2025 /CNW/ - Mémo-Qc, Mtr. Patrick Martin-Ménard and Sylvie Brosseau invite you to a press conference following the release of the report by Coroner Dave Kimpton, who presided over the public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Normand Meunier.
Date: November 26, 2025, 11:00 a.m.
Address: Ménard, Martin Avocats, 4950 Hochelaga, Montreal
Walter Zelaya, Executive Director of Mémo-Qc, Sylvie Brosseau, spouse of the late Mr. Normand Meunier, and Mtr. Patrick Martin-Ménard will speak at the conference.
As a reminder, in January 2024, Mr. Meunier developed a major pressure ulcer on his buttocks during a stay in the emergency room of the St-Jérôme hospital, where he spent 96 hours, or four days, lying on a hard stretcher, despite repeated requests from him and his partner for a mattress adapted to his spinal cord injury. His wound became infected and incurable. He had to resort to medical assistance in dying to end his suffering three months later, in March 2024.
The coroner's report on the circumstances surrounding Normand Meunier's death reveals serious systemic failures in the care he received in January 2024 at the St-Jérôme hospital in the Laurentians. It also demonstrates that Mr. Meunier's situation is not an isolated case and that shortcomings in the prevention and treatment of pressure sores at St-Jérôme Hospital are also found elsewhere in Quebec's healthcare system.
MÉMO-Qc, Ms. Martin-Ménard, and Ms. Brosseau will discuss the follow-up actions they intend to take, assuring everyone of their commitment to monitoring the implementation of the report's measures and recommendations.
English comments will be available.
