MONTREAL, Oct. 12, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Media are invited to a press conference this morning at 10:30 a.m. about the expulsion of Member of European Parliament and anti-globalization activist, José Bové.
Invited to Montreal by the Council of Canadians, the Quebec Network on Continental Integration (RQIC), Vigilance OGM, the National Farmer's Union, l'Union paysanne and Stop oléoduc, José Bové was supposed to speak at a public assembly on the Canada-European Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) yesterday, but he was detained by the Canadian Border Services Agency and kept waiting at the Montreal airport until approximately 10:00 p.m. He was then told he could leave the airport on the condition that he return at 1:00 p.m. today, at which time he will be expelled from Canada.
The press conference will take place at 10:30 a.m. in room 323, 2100 De Maisonneuve (corner of De Lorimier), in Montreal. José Bové will be accompanied by Sujata Dey from the Council of Canadians and Pierre-Yves Serinet from RQIC. The effects of CETA and the magnitude of opposition to the deal will also be discussed.
Other members of RQIC were also involved in organizing José Bové's visit to Montreal including Attac-Québec, le Conseil central du Montréal métropolitain (CSN), CSD, CSN and Génération national. After Bové's visit to Montreal, he was scheduled to speak at the Council of Canadians' national conference in St. John's, Newfoundland on October 14.
