From August 17-19, Sail-In Cinema will bring film classics to Sugar Beach for Toronto's favourite floating film festival
TORONTO, May 23, 2017 /CNW/ - PortsToronto is thrilled to announce that Sail-In Cinema – Toronto's only outdoor floating film event – is back, returning to Sugar Beach August 17-19. The free movie festival will once again showcase films chosen by public vote on one of the world's first and largest two-sided floating movie screens for boaters and landlubbers alike to enjoy.
From talking animals to action-adventure and animated classics, this year's film shortlist offers something for everybody. Three movies in total will be selected by public vote from the following curated shortlist of movies:
Celebrating its seventh year, PortsToronto's Sail-In Cinema has grown to become a "not-to-be-missed" summer outing for the entire family. Last year the event attracted more than 11,000 people on land and 100 boats over the three-day period. This year's event once again promises a truly memorable cinematic experience with custom configured audio and cinema-quality digital projectors. Audiences will have the opportunity to view their favourite films on a two-sided inflatable screen with a 40x20-foot viewing surface, which sits in a four-story frame and weighs more than 700 lbs — making it one of the largest outdoor movie screens in North America.
"PortsToronto is pleased to once again invite the community to choose Sail-In Cinema's final film line-up by voting for their favourite movies — and this year it's not going to be easy with so many great options on the shortlist," said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs. "Last year, Torontonians rose to the challenge with nearly 5,000 votes cast to determine the final movie lineup. This year, with so many amazing titles to choose from ranging from The Karate Kid to How to Train Your Dragon to Big and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, the voting is sure to get interesting and we are guaranteed to end up with a stellar movie line-up for one of the best events of the summer."
Voting is open until July 11, 2017, and the three winning films will be announced shortly thereafter. Updates and early polling results will be released on Twitter and Facebook throughout the voting period. Movies will start at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.) on each of the three nights of the festival.
