TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Employees who fuel Porter aircraft and service and clean third party aircraft on the Toronto Island airport have been unionized.
The 21 employees work for Porter, Fixed Base Operations (Porter FBO), a division of the popular airline.
They are now members of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union (COPE), which represents 35,000 public and private sector workers across Canada.
The newest members of COPE are the only Porter employees in Toronto who are unionized.
COPE is now bargaining a first collective agreement with Porter.
COPE Ontario Director Janice Best said her union is proud to have Porter employees in its membership.
"We look forward to working with them and with the Employer toward building the success of Porter and the quality of working life of our new members," Best said.
