VANCOUVER, May 27, 2015 /CNW/ - While other 60 year old women are taking up scrapbooking and gardening, Tantra Fitness student Lynn Wainwright is gearing up to compete in this year's BC Pole Fitness Championships, held on Saturday, June 6th, 2015, sanctioned by the Canadian Pole Fitness Association.
Having been encouraged by a friend, Lynn started taking Pole Fitness classes at Tantra Fitness in 2010. Instantly intrigued by the grace, strength and sensuality of pole, Lynn decided to be brave and sign up for her first class.
Initially intimidated by the twenty-somethings with picture-perfect bodies, Lynn let her stubborn nature push her through what would be the first of many pole classes. Lynn began to feel comfortable in her own skin and confident in her ability, now attending up to 10 classes a week.
Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that she'd be competing in this year's BC Pole Fitness Championships. Lynn put together a submission video and didn't think much of it, just entering was enough. A few weeks after she found out she had been successful in making it into the Master (40+) division.
With the competition only weeks away Lynn has undertaken extensive training including private lessons with some of Tantra's elite instructors such as Crystal Lai (Miss Pole Dance Canada 2010). "My motto from here to the end is: Pole, Eat, Sleep, Repeat. That's my Tantra mantra."
Perhaps the biggest accomplishment for Lynn is her new-found confidence and the noticeable difference in her health. Having dropped nearly twenty pounds, Lynn has lowered her chance of heart disease, diabetes, depression and stroke. She has also helped combat her struggle with seasonal affective disorder.
"I entered the championships in order to be the best I can be!"
"Confidence-building is probably the most empowering aspect of pole fitness."
About the Championships: The Canadian Pole Fitness Association have long pushed for a change in mentality towards the sport and its competitors focusing more on the display of strength and agility than exotic dance.
The BC's will be held June 6th at the Richmond Marriott Hotel. There are two shows and 6 Divisions including Men's, Masters and Doubles. Guest judges will include Steven Retchless, the Male Pole Dancer from America's Got Talent.
