TORONTO, Oct. 8, 2018 /CNW/ - To mark International Day of the Girl, Plan International Canada is collaborating with Twitter and the United Nations to launch a special #DayOfTheGirl emoji – representing the global movement for girls' rights and equality. To create the emoji, Plan International Canada consulted with its Youth Advisory Council to select the final design, which symbolizes the power, resilience, and potential of girls worldwide.
The emoji will be unlocked from October 8th – 12th, 2018 when people use #DayOfTheGirl, which will be available globally in several different languages, including French, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Bahasa Indonesian, Arabic, German, Turkish, Russian, Italian and Dutch.
"Every day, girls around the world are denied equal opportunity to become leaders, to make decisions that affect their lives, to raise their voices and be heard." says Caroline Riseboro, President & CEO of Plan International Canada. "That is why it's vital that we shine a light on these issues, whether in board rooms, classrooms or on our Twitter timelines. Conversations on Twitter drive meaningful dialogue in the real world, and we hope this emoji will spark a much-needed discussion on girls' rights in the lead up to International Day of the Girl."
"We're excited to be bringing a new look to International Day of the Girl conversations on Twitter for 2018," says Michele Austin, Head of Government, Public Policy & Philanthropy, Twitter Canada. "Each year, the movement and the #DayOfTheGirl hashtag drive a high volume of conversation across the globe. For 2018, this new emoji will bring even more color and energy to what audiences are seeing and experiencing on Twitter."
