Visitors invited to bring new piece of clothing to help support award-winning charity Windfall Basics clothing drive
PICKERING, ON, March 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Pickering Town Centre is inviting fashion mavens and wannabe models to join them on The Pink Carpet during March Break Fashion Week (March 9 - 18) for a unique opportunity to mingle with experts in the modeling and fashion business and to learn modeling tips and make-up secrets. Of special interest is the chance to enter the Sutherland Supermodel Search 2012 (age 14 plus) in conjunction with America's Next Top Model (ANTM) LIVE which is coming to the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto on May 4-6.
Starting at 12pm, the launch of March Break Fashion Week will be hosted by Degrassi's Alicia Josipovic and will feature a performance by Canadian Idol Finalist Jessica Sheppard. Both Alicia and Jessica will be available for pictures and signing afterwards.
For those under the age of 14, Sutherland's Kamera Kids is holding a weeklong contest where participants can win a professional photo shoot. The Pink Carpet is located at Centre Court on the lower level of the shopping centre and will be open daily from 11am to 3pm.
"We are thrilled to offer this exciting March Break initiative to the community, and are looking forward to showcasing the talents of rising young stars through our various activities," said Lorna Murphy, Marketing Director, Pickering Town Centre.
The Pink Carpet is also the site of a contest hosted by Pickering Town Centre and TechTAP, where young fashionistas can create a video blog for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree from Pickering Town Centre, a Blackberry Playbook from Best Buy Mobile, and be Pickering Town Centre's Fashion Finder Blogger at ANTM Live in May. Videos will get posted each day to Pickering Town Centre's Facebook page and Leesa Butler, founder and main writer for TheFList.ca, will pick a daily winner and post to her blog. Pickering Town Centre will then choose the winner from this pool of daily winners. To assist potential video bloggers in this endeavour, Pickering Town Centre has put together a tongue-in-cheek video about what not to do when blogging (Leesa Butler will make a special appearance to the shopping centre on March 18th to assist bloggers and provide tips). Activities will continue all next week and feature a special appearance by Canadian international superstar Karl Wolf on March 16th at 3pm in association with Vervegirl Magazine.
In support of Windfall Basics, an award-winning registered charity that provides new donated clothing and other basic needs items to 64,000 people in the Greater Toronto area who are struggling with poverty, Pickering Town Centre is inviting all visitors to March Break Fashion Week to make a donation of a new piece of clothing. A special "Closet" will be set-up for receipt of donations. Windfall is the official charity partner of the America's Next Top Model LIVE consumer show
To kick off the clothing drive for Windfall Basics, giant clothing retailer, H & M, is donating a $500 gift card. "H & M has been working with Windfall for many years in Canada. It is a great organization and we are so happy to be helping out with this great cause", said Emily Scarlett, Communications and Press Manager, H & M Canada. H & M is also sponsoring a product for the Swag Bags that will be available throughout March Break Fashion Week. Pickering Town Centre is matching H&M's donation and 50% of all monetary donations will go to Herizon House, a local women's shelter in Ajax.
Other participating sponsors include Schwarzkopf Professional, Vervegirl Magazine (a Vervegirl lounge will be located at the entrance of The Pink Carpet); Inspire Cosmetics, John Frieda, and Givenchy who will be providing free samples throughout the week.
