KITCHENER, ON, April 20, 2016 /CNW/ - peopleCare has again been honoured in Deloitte's annual list of 50 privately owned and managed companies that demonstrate continual excellence in innovative management and business performance. These organizations pursue innovation, adapt to change and maintain a sharp focus on their customers. Among the trends common to the best managed companies is a focus on leadership and success planning.
"We are thrilled that peopleCare is one of just two health care companies recognized in Deloitte's best 50," said peopleCare CEO Brent Gingerich. "For a family owned, residential care provider to be standing with organizations that compete internationally is a proud achievement. That achievement is shared across all our homes, and has been earned by each and every one of our team members."
peopleCare's leadership success is being offered across the senior services sector, through an innovative course taught by Chief Operating Officer Elaine Shantz. Last fall, she was the instructor for the Foundations of Leadership for Retirement and Senior Living Course, through the University of Guelph's College of Business and Economics. "As a graduate of Guelph's leadership program, I was excited to come back and share what I've learned with future executives," said Shantz. "One day, I hope to see more health care organizations on the Deloitte best managed roll."
This year, peopleCare's leadership is weaving a culture of kindness across the organization. One of the tangible ways this culture is being fostered is through its Heartfelt Thanks initiative, which encourages residents, families and friends to acknowledge peopleCare team members for acts of kindness. This initiative says 'thank you' to the team member through a financial donation to the organization's support of the MEDA, GROW, and GHANA an international project that creates business solutions to poverty. Heartfelt Thanks has increased awareness of the staff's caring, and strengthened the community of people touched by each home.
Another factor in peopleCare's continual delivery of excellent care, is its accreditation through Accreditation Canada. Accreditation Canada's Qmentum standards help health care service providers to embed practical and effective quality improvements and resident safety initiatives into their daily operations. peopleCare has achieved Exemplary Standing, which is reserved for organizations that go beyond the accreditation requirements, and demonstrate excellence in quality improvement.
Known for innovation, peopleCare understands that, during growth, it is important to strategically position the organization to maintain excellence in existing operations and clinical programs. This year, peopleCare rolled out many enhanced programs, including: a clinical advisory team made up of community partners; a doll therapy program partnering with Behaviour Supports Ontario; and a collaborative team focusing on end-of-life programs.
Deloitte's recognition comes as peopleCare is preparing Oakcrossing Retirement Living, a new home to open in London next year. "This award is a very welcome recognition of what we've achieved so far," said Gingerich. "It is also a timely reminder that a new community of residents, families and staff will be expecting the high quality experience that peopleCare has created. We very much look forward to delivering it."
peopleCare is a family-founded enterprise that holds its values of care with pride. The organization carries on a 45+ year tradition of providing homes in Southern Ontario with legendary hospitality, 'a place where people care.' Headquartered in Kitchener, peopleCare owns homes in Kitchener, Cambridge, London and Tavistock. The firm manages homes in Stratford, Cambridge and Delhi. In 2017, peopleCare will be opening Oakcrossing Retirement Living in London, featuring 100 spacious studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with thoughtful conveniences and upgraded features.
