PCL Construction on FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" List
DENVER, CO, Jan. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - PCL Construction has been named to FORTUNE magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list for the eighth consecutive year. This year, PCL a top North American general contractor based in Denver, CO, earned a #73 ranking on the annual listing.
"We distinguish ourselves as an employer of choice by providing a high-quality work environment, and opportunities for advancement, and ingraining a community-minded philosophy," said Peter Beaupré, PCL's US President and Chief Operating Officer. "However, we wouldn't be recognized on this list if it weren't for the efforts of our dedicated people who work so hard focusing on our customers and business partners. It is a privilege to work with such a motivated team and we are delighted to be recognized on this list for an eighth consecutive year."
PCL's employee-ownership model, wellness initiatives, philanthropic efforts, and professional development programs all contributed to this year's ranking. Beyond offering a robust benefits package to all salaried employees, PCL helps employees achieve a work-life balance by offering a flexible working schedule, a yearly gym reimbursement, and employee wellness programs, along with the opportunity to attend events and celebrations throughout the year.
"PCL employees are passionate about what they do and take a collaborative approach to solving complex challenges," Ashley Smith, PCL Project Engineer said. "As an employee-owner, I have an elevated interest in the success of PCL and strive to do my best so that I can play an important role in what we accomplish. I enjoy being a part of the PCL team!"
To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, Fortune partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America: 259 firms participated in this year's survey. More than 277,000 employees at those companies responded to a survey created by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts. After evaluations are completed, if news about a company comes to light that may significantly damage employees' faith in management, we may exclude it from the list. Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible. For more information on how to apply, visit: http://bit.ly/n8bVJ3
