VICTORIA, Nov. 1, 2017 /CNW/ - After weeks of public hearings and hundreds of submissions, the B.C Utilities Commission report has yet to provide a compelling reason not to complete the Site C Clean Energy Project. While the report calls into question the ultimate cost and timing of completion for Site C, it provides no clear way forward.
"The report lacks the clarity that workers, their employers, the investment community and taxpayers have been waiting for," said Rieghardt van Enter, BC Regional Director for the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA). "If anything, the report raises further concerns about the value of this regulatory review."
PCA represents employers who have approximately 1,000 workers at the Site C dam. The project has clear benefits for BC:
- Employing over 2,000 highly skilled BC workers;
- Contributing $3.2 billion to provincial GDP;
- Providing a large and long-term source of clean and affordable power to British Columbians for the next century.
"With billions already invested in Site C, stopping now would be the most damaging option possible for taxpayers," added van Enter. "We're urging the BC government to make the right decision on behalf of workers, their communities and all British Columbians by completing the project."
