QUÉBEC, May 22, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - MediaMed Technologies is pleased to announce the digitization of the patient care unit at Papineau Hospital. This is the hospital's first patient care unit to be equipped with Med-Care Plus, a clinical management system designed for nurses and physicians. The application allows healthcare professionals to plan and schedule clinical patient interventions, in real time.
Implemented on May 7th, nursing staff now has immediate access to all information pertaining to a patient`s specific episode of care from anywhere on the unit thanks to five portable computer devices and five fixed work stations. As well, the application includes a complete view of the patient care unit with a real time dashboard installed at the nursing station. The patient care plan initiated in ER is automatically transferred to the patient care unit without manual input. The interface and transfer of data from the emergency room to the patient care unit reduces the time required for transcription of data, reduces risk of error and frees up nursing time which results in more meaningful patient care.
"Since Day 1, the response from the staff has been positive", said Ms. Adele Gorman, the acting patient unit manager. "Med-Care Plus increases both quality of care and patient safety. The application streamlines the transcription of patient information to the patient's health record. The electronic transfer of patient data from our ER Application, Med-Urge to Med-Care Plus speeds up access to clinical patient information", Mrs. Gorman added.
For physicians, the introduction of Med-Care Plus allows instant access to patient records and treatment protocols. In addition, they can now track the patient's progress and test results directly on the patient health record.
"Med-Care Plus, interfaced with Med-Urge, facilitates communication between clinicians and improves the quality of care for patients," said Dr. Jean Mireault, vice president, clinical affairs MediaMed Technologies.
Med-Care Plus is an application that helps nurses and physicians follow-up on patient assignments and related nurse workloads. The dashboard offers real time visualization of the physical location of patients within a care unit. The seamless transfer of patient information and automation of clinical protocols standardizes the quality of care, improves patient flow, allows for measurements of delays and consequently optimizes patient length of stay.
