Pacific NorthWest LNG Welcomes NEB Export Permit Decision
VANCOUVER, Dec. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - Today, Pacific NorthWest LNG welcomed the decision by the National Energy Board (NEB) to grant a license to export up to 22.2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year for 25 years beginning in 2019. The NEB decision is subject to approval of the Governor in Council.
"The decision announced today by the National Energy Board is another positive step toward establishing a thriving LNG industry on the west coast of British Columbia," said Greg Kist, President of Pacific NorthWest LNG. "Our proposed facility has the potential to create multi-generational benefits for British Columbians and Canadians through the development of a strong export industry for our natural gas."
The proposed facility represents an investment of $9 billion to $11 billion, and will create up to 3,500 direct jobs during construction. Once operational, the LNG facility will create 200 to 300 permanent, full-time jobs.
Pacific NorthWest LNG entered into both the federal Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and BC Environmental Assessment Office review processes in 2013. The project intends to submit its Environmental Assessment to both agencies in early 2014.
