OVH, the number 3 cloud computing company in the world, continues its Canadian expansion by opening offices in Toronto
A fourth Canadian business location for the company
TORONTO, Oct. 24, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - European leader and the world's third largest cloud computing provider, OVH officially arrived in the country's economic capital today. This initiative will allow the company to be closer to its growing client base in Ontario and continue its North American expansion plan. OVH made its Canadian entrance in 2012, opening an office in Montréal and, soon after, establishing one of the largest data hosting centres in the world1—with a 400,000-server capacity—in the suburbs of Quebec's metropolis.
"We are very happy with the pace of our establishment in Canada," said Laurent Allard, Chief Executive Officer of OVH. The company has already entered into an important partnership with Rogers to develop its new range of cloud services. "The cities of Toronto and Montréal are two important hubs in our sector, as well as being strategic bridges between Europe and North America."
Ranked first by CloudScreener2 in France and second in North America and Europe for its Public Cloud, today OVH has a global presence, with 20 data centres hosting over 250,000 servers.
"Toronto is at the centre of the Canadian economy and is thus a natural and crucial step in our development in Canada," explained Cédric Combey, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for OVH Canada. "Companies in Ontario looking for innovative, safe and competitive cloud solutions will be able to take advantage of our infrastructure and personalized support."
The fourth OVH facility in Canada, the Toronto office will specialize in business development. This opening follows last year's inauguration of a research and development office in Québec, which has already recruited nearly 30 people. OVH employs a total of 140 people in Canada.
From Paris to Toronto and all over the world: announcements at the OVH Summit 2016
OVH's announcement comes a few days after the one it made in Paris on October 11 at the fourth edition of the OVH Summit, a flagship event honouring the group's communities (clients, partners, suppliers, etc.), which 2,500 people attended this year.
On that occasion, OVH management announced the opening of three new data centres in Singapore, Warsaw and Sydney, kicking off a wave of 10 new data centres that will come online in 2017 in countries across the world (United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, England and the Netherlands). Backed by an investment of €1.5 billion by 2021, these new facilities will help meet the growing demand for cloud infrastructure and will bring to 27 the total number of data centres controlled by OVH, whose network now spans the globe.
The company also used the event to reiterate its commitment to the hybrid cloud in order to meet the growing outsourcing and international development needs of businesses. It naturally shone the spotlight on its Private Cloud, a unique range of solutions that combine 100% dedicated infrastructure and VMware-based virtualization. The on-demand SDDC (Software-Defined Data Center) offer allows companies to build and manage an entirely dedicated and automated smart virtual data centre. OVH is currently the only vendor to provide such a service.
Finally, this year's OVH Summit featured the Digital Launch Pad area, inspired by OVH's innovation support program, which has helped over 400 start-ups since it was launched one year ago.
