TORONTO, April 4, 2016 /CNW/ - Origin Merchant Partners is pleased to announce the appointment of the Honourable Joe Oliver, former Minister of Finance and Minister of Natural Resources for the Government of Canada, as Chairman of its Advisory Board.
Mr. Oliver brought a wealth of capital markets and securities regulatory experience to his role as Canada's Minister of Finance. He oversaw the first annual surplus since 2007 and then presented a budget that was balanced fiscally and socially. While Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Oliver promoted the diversification of Canadian export markets for the energy, mining, and forestry sectors to drive economic growth and job creation.
As Chairman of the Advisory Board, Mr. Oliver will provide strategic advice to Origin Merchant Partners' domestic and international clients and insight on government legislation, regulations and policies that can impact strategic business decisions. Mr. Oliver was the federal Minister of Finance, Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Eglinton-Lawrence. Mr. Oliver played a prominent role as Chair for the International Council of Securities Associations and the Consultative Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions. He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators and sat on the board of the Canadian Securities Institute Research Foundation. He served on the board Mount Sinai Hospital and as Chair of the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada.
Recently, Mr. Oliver was appointed Distinguished Senior Fellow of the Montreal Economic Institute. He frequently writes articles for publication and does TV and print media interviews on financial and natural resource issues.
