Ontario Propane Association responds to Ontario Government's Proposed Changes
to Propane Safety Requirements
TORONTO, Oct. 7 /CNW/ - Yesterday, the Ontario Propane Association (OPA) and other interested parties received the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services' proposed changes to the requirements for all propane transfer facilities across Ontario.
These proposed changes will affect operations of more than 1600 propane facilities across the province, the public's access to these facilities, and the secure, reliable distribution of a safe and environmentally friendly alternative fuel.
The OPA fully supports the need to ensure these facilities continue to be safe, and that any changes to the regulations ensure this objective remains paramount.
However, the proposed changes are numerous and complex. They need to get this right, if we are to help the ministry ensure our joint objective of ensuring public safety. Simply put, we need more than the seven days they are proposing, so that we can fully consult with our members and other parties affected by the legislation, including recreational vehicle users, alternate fuel system operators, tourism site operators, and operators of emergency fuel systems, and submit our recommendations to the ministry. We will be communicating this concern to the ministry today.
The OPA is the voice of the propane industry in Ontario. It represents the interests of more than 250 propane retailers, producers, transporters, wholesalers, and suppliers to the industry of Ontario.
