TORONTO, June 1, 2017 /CNW/ - The news today out of Woodstock is heart wrenching and incredibly tragic. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families impacted, but also with the residents and staff at these homes, and indeed all others across our province.
This is the first time something like this has ever occurred in Ontario's long-term care sector. In the midst of this difficult time it's so important that we do not lose sight of the crucial role that long-term care homes play in caring for our loved ones. Each and every year there are over 100,000 seniors receiving high quality care and support through our homes and therefore it is crucial that we continue to reinforce just how rare this incident was.
Ontario's long-term care homes continue to be the safest in the North America and we are proud of our staff who do so much to care for the thousands of residents who have increasingly complex medical needs. We encourage everyone to not use the actions of this individual to pass judgement and negatively characterize the important role our nurses, PSWs and other front line staff that play in supporting and caring for the thousands of seniors and families our homes serve each and every day.
