MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 12, 2019 /CNW/ - Ontario charities and non-profit organizations are saying a great big thank you to Doug Ford's government for eliminating the unfair 3rd Party Break Open Ticket (BOT) Administration Fee. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Vic Fedeli in the provincial budget on April 11, 2019.
The Fee put an extra levy of $75 on a standard box of BOTs that charities sold in Ontario. The result was more than $4 million in charity revenues going to the government each year, instead of towards charitable purposes. The OCGA had asked the previous government to eliminate this unfair Fee for more than a decade.
The Ford government's decision demonstrates a commitment to local charities and non-profits, and it will allow them to keep more of their hard-earned revenues for important services in communities across the province.
Break Open Tickets are licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and sold by Ontario charities in convenience stores, legions, hospitals and service clubs.
