Ongoing Labour Dispute Leaves Parents in the Dark
SQE calls upon Minister of Education to order school boards to complete report cards during summer months
TORONTO, June 12, 2015 /CNW/ - News that hundreds of thousands of Ontario elementary school children won't be receiving an end of year report card is leaving parents stuck looking for answers.
As Canada's only charity dedicated to the improvement of public education, The Society for Quality Education wants parents to ensure that they are not left in the dark by the on-going labour dispute between the unions and the school boards.
"I'm not sure why the union is seeking to punish the parents and kids," Society for Quality Education President Maddie Di Muccio said on Thursday. "Students – many who've struggled to improve their marks - have invested great effort towards achieving success. Parents have spent thousands of their own money on after school tutoring towards improving their child's performance in school. Students and parents have a right to know how well they've done."
SQE calls upon the Minister of Education to order school boards to complete report cards during the summer months.
"We urge all parents to schedule interviews with their child's school and demand to know the final grades in each subject," said Di Muccio. "According to the Minister of Education, the marks are available to parents who want them."
