MONTREAL, Dec. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec Ski Areas Association and its governmental partners are proud to officially announce the launch of their annual promotional on-slope safety activities as well as a new helmet awareness campaign.
This on-slope campaign will tour more than 30 ski areas during the winter with the goal of promoting on-slope safety to skiers and snowboarders as well as providing free helmet tryout. Thanks to its partners, the ASSQ will be able to organize helmet essays in nearly 50 areas.
In addition to this initiative, a series of promotional activities has been planned to raise the general awareness to the Alpine Responsibility Code, promoting control and the importance of well tuned equipment.
"Helmet use promotion efforts are successful in Quebec. This year we will again demonstrate it is possible to convince skiers and snowboarders to wear helmets. We believe this positive approach has the best chances of influencing skiers and snowboarders to wear helmets," says Brigitte Marchand, ASSQ Chair.
This campaign will also be on-line with a new website in french: www.moncasque.ca This site will provide the public with a variety of helmet content in addition to exciting multimedia initiatives.
Former Olympics athletes Jean-Luc Brassard and Mélanie Turgeon will act as partners to broadcast special safety tips segments on MétéoMédia.
The ASSQ emphasizes that helmet use has been mandatory for snowpark users since the winter of 2006-2007. This initiative places the Quebec ski industry at the the forefront in North American regarding to safety promotion.
The 2009-2010 safety campaign and its on-site tours are made possible thanks to the participation of the following partners: Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS), Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS), MétéoMédia, Patrouille Santé Jean Coutu, Giro, Rossignol Canada, ski patrols, Canadian Ski Instructors' Alliance and the Quebec Sports Trainers Program (PESQ).
The Quebec Ski Areas Association (ASSQ) represents all ski areas in Quebec. Its mission is to represent and defend the interests of its members, to support the practice of alpine skiing and to improve product quality.
