TORONTO, April 12 /CNW/ - The Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) and Sempa Power are collaborating to connect Canadian smart grid technology to water and wastewater systems to create new opportunities involving water and electricity.
The first collaboration will come in the form of a pilot project designed to demonstrate the capacity for water systems to provide demand based ancillary services, such as system regulation, to Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
"By opening up the market to demand side innovation, Ontario's IESO has turned the page for the next generation of smart grid services. Sempa is pleased to work with OCWA to exhibit how Ontario's water and wastewater resources can become a valuable tool in provincial energy management and the adoption of sustainable energy" said Ron Dizy, Sempa Power President & CEO.
In the coming weeks Sempa and OCWA will look to incorporate regional water stakeholders as resource participants in response to a recently announced IESO regulation demonstration project.
"The Province of Ontario is very active in driving positive change in clean energy and water services. As a crown agency, OCWA immediately recognized the potential of working with Sempa on the IESO System Regulation project" said OCWA President & CEO, Robin Kind. "We are confident that success in the demonstration project will bring economic and environmental benefits to the people of Ontario."
For water and wastewater facilities interested to participate in the upcoming IESO demonstration project, they can contact Sempa. Sempa's Smart Grid Team will assess each candidate's facility to determine their compatibility with this innovative project. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Sempa at email@example.com.
